Bloomsbury is a small borough at the county's northwestern corner, set where the Musconetcong River marks the boundary with Warren County. It developed as a mill and rail village, and its compact core still reflects that origin.
Houses stand close together on small lots, mostly nineteenth century, and the roofs are correspondingly modest in footprint but steep and closely detailed.
Bloomsbury Borough covers a small area along the Musconetcong River near the Route 78 corridor, with a dense village centre of older houses and a handful of streets rising from the river valley.

Local Building Stock
The borough's housing is predominantly nineteenth-century frame and masonry construction on small, closely spaced lots, with steep roofs over plank decking and original masonry chimneys. Rear additions and porch roofs at shallower pitches are common, and some buildings along the main street have mixed residential and commercial use with low-slope rear sections.
Most Bloomsbury work involves repairing specific failed details on period roofs, replacing shallow-pitch sections with appropriate low-slope systems, and full replacement where a covering has reached the end of its life.
Seasonal Conditions
The Musconetcong valley setting keeps ambient moisture relatively high and shades parts of the borough for portions of the day, so roofs dry slowly after rain. Winter freeze-thaw cycling is the principal stress on the borough's older flashing details and on eaves where ice accumulates.
Across the region, winter cycles repeatedly above and below freezing rather than staying frozen. Water works into small gaps, freezes, expands and enlarges them — which is what wears at flashing joints and builds ice at the eaves.
Services
The full range is available here. These are the ones most often needed on local properties.
Targeted repairs for leaks, wind-lifted shingles, failed flashing and damaged roof penetrations.
Full tear-off and rebuild of the roofing system, from decking and underlayment through to ridge ventilation.
Urgent response for active leaks, storm-opened roofs and exposed decking, starting with stopping water entry.
Roofing for houses across Hunterdon County, from mid-century colonials to farmhouses and newer developments.
Low-slope and steep-slope roofing for commercial, retail, light industrial and multi-unit properties.
If your roof is open or actively leaking in Bloomsbury, call (914) 906-5748 rather than waiting on a form, so we can treat it as urgent.
Our Process
The same sequence on every property, whatever the municipality.
Tell us what you are seeing — a stain, a missing shingle, a roof you know is old. Photographs help if you have them.
We assess the roof surface and, where access allows, the attic side, so the diagnosis is based on where water is actually travelling.
A plain explanation of what we found and why it matters, including an honest view on whether repair or replacement is the better use of your money.
Scope, materials and price in writing before any work begins, so you know exactly what is included.
Carried out with the property protected. Failed components are removed and rebuilt rather than covered over, and we talk to you before any scope changes.
Debris cleared, a magnetic sweep for nails, and a review of what was done and what the work revealed.

Questions
It affects how the work is organised more than what the work is. Ladder placement, staging and keeping debris off adjoining property all need planning in advance, and we account for that when estimating rather than working it out on the day.
Often yes, though the options are more limited than in a modern house. What matters is whether air can both enter and leave — a ridge vent alone achieves little without intake. We will tell you what is realistically achievable on your roof rather than selling a vent that will not work.
Yes. Period roofs here are steep and closely detailed, and a replacement is assessed on the basis of the plank decking, flashing and chimney conditions we actually find rather than a standard scope.
Yes. We work across all 26 municipalities in Hunterdon County, from the Delaware River boroughs through the central farmland to the northern uplands.
