Stockton is among the smallest municipalities in Hunterdon County — a compact Delaware River borough on Route 29, near the Prallsville Mills and the Delaware and Raritan Canal towpath.
Its buildings are few but historically significant, closely spaced along the river road, and the roofing considerations here are those of a small, old, damp riverside settlement.
Stockton Borough covers a very small area on the Delaware River in southwestern Hunterdon County, strung along Route 29 between the river and rising ground, with the canal and towpath running alongside.

Local Building Stock
The borough's buildings are predominantly nineteenth century in stone, brick and frame, tightly spaced along the main street with pitched roofs and frequent low-slope rear additions. Plank decking and substantial masonry chimneys are typical. Some structures sit on low ground near the river and canal.
Stockton work generally involves repair and replacement on period masonry buildings, low-slope membrane work on rear sections, and inspection of older roofs.
Seasonal Conditions
Sitting between the river, the canal and rising ground, Stockton is consistently damp and partly shaded, so roofs dry slowly and organic growth on north-facing slopes is common. Freeze-thaw cycling is the main winter stress, working at masonry flashing joints and at low-slope rear sections.
Across the region, winter cycles repeatedly above and below freezing rather than staying frozen. Water works into small gaps, freezes, expands and enlarges them — which is what wears at flashing joints and builds ice at the eaves.
Services
The full range is available here. These are the ones most often needed on local properties.
Targeted repairs for leaks, wind-lifted shingles, failed flashing and damaged roof penetrations.
Full tear-off and rebuild of the roofing system, from decking and underlayment through to ridge ventilation.
Urgent response for active leaks, storm-opened roofs and exposed decking, starting with stopping water entry.
Roofing for houses across Hunterdon County, from mid-century colonials to farmhouses and newer developments.
Low-slope and steep-slope roofing for commercial, retail, light industrial and multi-unit properties.
If your roof is open or actively leaking in Stockton, call (914) 906-5748 rather than waiting on a form, so we can treat it as urgent.
Our Process
The same sequence on every property, whatever the municipality.
Tell us what you are seeing — a stain, a missing shingle, a roof you know is old. Photographs help if you have them.
We assess the roof surface and, where access allows, the attic side, so the diagnosis is based on where water is actually travelling.
A plain explanation of what we found and why it matters, including an honest view on whether repair or replacement is the better use of your money.
Scope, materials and price in writing before any work begins, so you know exactly what is included.
Carried out with the property protected. Failed components are removed and rebuilt rather than covered over, and we talk to you before any scope changes.
Debris cleared, a magnetic sweep for nails, and a review of what was done and what the work revealed.

Questions
Yes, with planning. Limited frontage, passing traffic and close neighbours mean access, staging and debris containment have to be arranged in advance, and that forms part of the estimate.
Most often because the flashing has been sealed to the face of the masonry rather than set into a joint. Sealant has a far shorter life than metal, and on irregular stone it fails sooner. The durable repair is to cut in proper counter-flashing.
In a setting this damp and shaded, yes over time. Moss holds moisture against the shingles and, as it thickens, lifts the edges of the courses so water can get underneath. It should be treated properly rather than scraped, which strips the granule surface.
Yes. We work across all 26 municipalities in Hunterdon County, from the Delaware River boroughs through the central farmland to the northern uplands.
